Gift Guide for the Person Who Has Everything
Every family has one. The friend or relative who has done all the holidays, owns all the gadgets, and says “oh, I don’t really need anything” with a glint in their eye that suggests they would quite like something after all.
The trick is not spending more. It is giving them something they would never have found on their own. Here is how we would go about it.
For the person who likes a story
Choose something that cannot be bought twice. The rescued and reworked dolls from Dead Dolls Society or a framed metal detecting find are hard to forget. For something more delicate, try an entomology frame or display dome from Gaia Morte Artworks.
For the home that seems complete
Scent is a safe bet, because most people stick with what they know. A statement candle or wax bouquet from Dahlia Wax Candles or a choose-your-own reed diffuser from ScarWick Candles will either become a new obsession or live in the downstairs loo where guests compliment it. Both are wins. Our beginner’s guide to candles will help you choose. A smoky resin tray from Resin by Laura works well too.
For someone with a sense of humour
A cheeky mug from Risky Mugs is a cheap laugh that gets used every day. Just check the design suits the person, and the room, as some are definitely for adults.
For the gamer
Tabletop players always claim they have enough dice. They are lying. Boston T Gaming has dice, dice towers, dice bags and painted miniatures for Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer fans. If they prefer glowing screens to rolling dice, MagicBoxes has some good ideas for video game fans too.
For someone who loves to dress up
Jewellery feels personal without being too risky if you keep it simple. Lily Star Zorric has silver and stainless steel pieces for men and women, Jakki’s Handcrafted Jewellery takes custom orders, and CrypticxCove makes gothic chainmaille pieces. Amy’s Crystals & Crafts has plenty of crystal bracelets at gift-friendly sizes.
For the person who has a dog (and everything else)
Dog owners are the easiest people on earth to buy for. A handmade blanket from Handmade with Rage will be used far more than another ornament.
A few rules that always help
- Buy for who they are, not who you wish they were.
- Tell them who made it. The story is half the present.
- Keep the receipt, and check our refunds and returns policy if you are unsure.
- If you are ordering something custom, leave plenty of time before the big day.
And if all else fails, ask us. Pop in to 15 West Street or drop us a message. We spend our days surrounded by gifts, and we have strong opinions.
